About Epígrafes

Clairvoyance is to see beyond ordinary perception. The performing act of making art, for me is a gesture of clairvoyance. Creating art is a consensual experience of the material world with the use and transformations of language, aesthetics, culture, and the artist. 1 grew up in Tijuana, Mexico where noise is a routinely occurrence; 1 am accustomed to color, chaos, movement and to a culture of constant migration between the US and Mexico. The wholeness of my modus vivendi and lite experiences can be define by Semiology, which is the study of signs, and signs are the most prevalent constant in my lite as an artist, as a woman and as a Mexican. 1 naturally create amorphic sculptures, shapes, and texturas. Most of my sculptures are wall objects made of household materials: flour, bar soaps, baked bread and other synthetic elements, which I transform to create an objection aesthetic through which I allude to my non-legible emotions… The act of art making could be a gene in our cells, in our subconscious, or an execration in mankind’s spirit. In order to commence the process of creation and art making I defer to the aid of experience the ordinary. Ritualistically this takes the form of: teeth brushing, hair brushing, dressing undressing, cooking, and the like. 1 believe that by using a brush to touch and comb your hair is an intimate and ritualistic activity. The relationship of utilitarian objects and humans is captivating effect of beauty and idealization. A ‘thing,’ such as a brush, has an imperceptive importance and significance in relationship to daily routines. My artwork as part of the world of ‘things’ shares and imitates a common significance likewise the brush, due to the level of necessity, desire, and importance is dictated by the and not by the piece of art per se. 1 believe that a simple ordinary activity is a profound action. The aid of the ‘thing’ an object to perform the activity is an instrument with a large affinity to the world of contemplation and rational thinking. Abstract communication could be deliberated by the means of contemplation. 1 am unsure if my work is for the pure deliberation of the mind, but I make flour objects, and my mother makes flour tortillas. 1 wonder if these parallelisms insinuate mockery and plagiarism? Are these modes the contemporary fashion in which most artist work currently? Am I looking into my uniqueness to create object-art? 1 cannot fully answer these questions but I am aware that I strive for a consensual experience with the act of contemplation; 1 try to materializa abstract communication into objects of desire, objects of art…
